Sped up footage?
Posted by Thew on March 22, 2006 at 10:37 pmHello all,
I am using the Speed function in FCP, however the video loses alot of quailty..
Any advice???
The footage was shot in 24p with a DVX100 so I dont know if that helps..
But any would be great.

March 22, 2006 at 11:19 pmDid you RENDER it at the highest quality setting?
Did you try it WITH and then WITHOUT the “frame blending” option? -

March 22, 2006 at 11:21 pmThe Final Cut speed control is so-so at best. If you have access to a compositing program like After Effects, use that for these shots instead.
But if you’re stuck with Final Cut, here’s the big secret: Stick with numbers that are “easy” for the computer.
So, for example, 25% 50% 200% 400% are all good. 98% or 212% are bad. For two examples; if the computer has to only erase every other frame (200%) or double every frame (50%) then Final Cut really has no problems. When you get into anything more complicated than that, though, it starts to break down a little.

March 23, 2006 at 1:50 pmYeah but when I bring the footage in to AE, it just dosent look clean, maybe try a motion blur.
I am using AE 5.5 so Im sure that dosent help.. -

March 23, 2006 at 4:36 pmAre you editing your 24P footage in a 29.97 timeline? If so you will get an uneven, stuttery looking speed up or Slo-Mo. You’ll notice it more if you slow down the footage. If you want it to look as clean as it can be in FCP you should be editing at the native frame rate. There are other tools that do better slo-mo’s and speed ups. Boris BCC has the Optical Flow filter for FCP that looks good. AE 7 has improved on it’s speed motion. Twixtor comes to mind also.
