  • which HD card should I buy ?

We often see posts on “which HD card should I buy”.

Today I installed a Kona 2 system for a customer that had a Firewire only FCP system. They had previously rented a Panasonic AJ-HD1200 VTR, and used the iLink port to get the HD into their FCP system, but never saw the output of their spots. (the G5 was an old 2Gig G5).

Taking the analog Y Pb Pr from the K-Box, I sent the HD signal into the AMAZING Samsung 460P LCD monitor (46″). They were quite emotional when seeing the amazing output of their work in true HD for the first time, via the Kona 2.

The nice thing about the Samsung 460P is that you don’t need to go to that tanning salon anymore – you can bronze right in the edit room – the output (while not critical) is VERY BRIGHT AND VIBRANT (designed, I belive, for Airport display signage).

No – for a real monitor, get the new Panasonic BT-LH2600W. But to blow clients away “wow, we never saw a picture so bright” – this is the baby.

I’ve got the 17″ little brother of this model and it’s pretty sweet. But all the shortcomings of the 17″ have been fixed in the new 26″. I saw it at NAB and boy is it NICE!! I’ve taken the 17″ with me on remote edits, and it works great on location. When the the 26″ actually starts shipping I’ll have to trade up. Cost isn’t too bad either, considering what you get for the price.
