I tried all three on my my Intious 2 on the mac pro here and the photoshop and FCP things aren’t issues. Holding a click on a file doesn’t allow me to change the name. That doesn’t bother me though as I never even knew that was an option before. I either go for a slow double click or just hit return while the file is selected.
Spence,
I have mine set so the bottom button is set for double clicks and the top button is set to right click (I think thats reverse from the default) as I find I use double click more than right click. I also have it set in mouse mode so I don’t have to fly all around to get things far off. And I just keep it to the right of my keyboard like I would a mouse.

I just opened a project and adjusted 2 characters out of 7 with the slider for text size. It’s never worked before. With my luck it won;t work next time I actually need it.

This is what we do. It gives us nice DV workstations etc. Were currently upgrading my system which is the same computer you have, and we’re bumping it to one of the smoke editors, so he can use it for email as well as using it for livetype and Motion to bring into the smoke.

I had a problem once loading HDV off an HVRZ1U. My dual 2.0 G5 was having a bad day and it couldn’t keep up. So on the capture it would work for 20 secs or so and then wouldn’t be able to capture any longer and would freeze. Then I took the camera to our newer FCP suite on an Intel dualcore and it captured fine. I’d try a different machine.

Have you tried trashing prefs? Also are you opening a project directly or are you just opening final cut? If you are opening the project directly how big is that file. Usually more/longer sequences you have in FCP the larger the file size. Sometimes when i file size gets really big it just takes time for FCP to get all it’s ducks in a row.

Title rolls always at an obnoxious amount of time to render. They even take a long time in our Smoke systems. When we need credit rolls we always do it in our old linear room and we get a smooth roll with no render. Down side is no copy and pasting function into the old Maxine.

Here’s my best guess, but it’s only a guess as I really have no idea.
When something isn’t rendered and you place the playhead on the timeline it takes the computer a bit before it can process that frame (b/c the playhead parked anywhere is essentially how it will look rendered ie full quality). It’s basically caching that frame to ram for now. When you render, you are actually writing to disk what the computer has computed. Any realtime playback you are getting is a lower res version of the video that can be played back by your systerm depending on the speed. Load 1000 jpegs on a timeline and you’ll see that realtime has a time limitation as it will be realtime for a while but then you’ll see a red render bar b/c the sotware is saying ok, this is all i can handle (since it isn’t actually writing any of it to disk and all the processing is heavy machine lifting. The fact that you can render at 3 times faster than realtime just means your machine is fast. To playback at full-res they’d have have final cut not lock up while it’s rendering (ie no render bar that makes the program not accessible. Then you could start the render and then a second later you could start playing back, and the render would keep ahead of the playhead.

Thanks guys, that’s exactly what I was wanting to know.[Steve Roberts] “Remember, AE is a lousy editor, but a decent compositor. So the workflow is different from that of an editing app. But you knew that. ;-)”
True it is a lowsey editor, but sometimes after you’ve already done the edit and ducked your way to AE to fancy it all up the revision fairy comes knocking.

thanks for the help. But is there no way to just shift all the layers by a specific amount using the keys. So if I wanted to move everything by 3seconds and 7 frames. or would i have to shift alt pg down 12 times and then alt page up 3 times?
