  • Just wanted to say thanks to Dan. Was trying to figure out how to use time remap values to control another layer’s property. couldn’t figure it out and then found this thread and saw the expression you wrote above. I had tried the math.round function, but didn’t think to try timetoframes. Thanks a bunch.

I actually did fill out a request after I realized this was an adobe workflow problem. Thanks for posting the link, so others could do the same.

I was able to find some stuff on some forums at adobe. It appears that the CinemaDNG importer for Premiere is different from the one for After Effects, and that’s the cause of it only importing the first frame. I have not found a solution, but I did find an Adobe Video of a work around workflow from before Premiere could use DNG Raw files. SO this seems like it may be the backward ass workflow to use as a solution.

Right that has to do with the after effects order of operations, which you can’t change. But if your mask is in the precomp and your flop effect is in the main comp you should be good. When you need to modifiy your mask, you need to go into the precomp.

If you have already applied the flop, you need to make sure you select “leave all attributes” in the main comp. Now within that pre comp, you should have an unflopped image you can mask.

digital juice has nice collections of repeating patterns. Or there are online resources with free ones such as cgtextures.com. We’ve done well in the past using tileable textures and the CC RepeTile effect to create ground layers.

you’re still gonna have some limitations based on the size the layer can extend.

A client wanted us to do a whiteboard video recently, and I stumbled across this method of animating a draw on effect.. I never would have though to do it this way, but this method would give you the tracking point you need to attach your pen/hand to later.

During my research I watched a ton of whiteboard style animations, and very few of them were actually able to pull off the hand/pen drawing them without looking cheesy.
