It drove me nuts the first time i realized this. I came from a tape to tape world so i’m expectiing the old five pizza’s minus two pizza’s equals three pizza’s method. Well i had a client who needed frame grabs off of this tape. he needed like a hundred of them. I told him to just log it on an excell sheet and with the appropriate headings. So naturally for a one frame grab he would enter the inpoint as 00;00;00;01 and the outpoint as 00;00;00;02. That is a duration of one frame. If you ask a fist grader the difference he’ll tell you ti’s one frame. So i loaded in the batch list and captured, and was suprised to have two frames on each shot. So to get one fram i had to mark in at 00;00;00;01 and mark out at 00;00;00;01. HOw can you start and stop on the same frame. That to me is a duration of 0 frames. It is just highly illogical. if you try to punch in the same timecode as your in and out on any linear system it will give you an error, but if you punch in the same timecode as an in and out on FCP you will get one frame. I’m curious as to why why did it like this.

It really depends on what you need them for. The quickest way to do them would be to hit apple shift 4 and draw a box around the canvas or viewer (whichever you want to grab). It’ll take a screen shot of the selected box and call it picture 1 etc. This won’t give you as large an image as exporting the frames as jpgs or tiffs or psd’s, but it’s really quick.

well if you can’t get it figured out you could always just create a dot or dash with the shape tool and copy and paste and offset it a certain number of frames. That way you will be able to move any of you dot’s or dashes however you want to. motion just seems to do odd things sometimes. My wierdest, was somehow when i was hitting the pound sign a dollar sign would show up. Finally when i kept deleting it and typing it back i finally got the “#” i was lookinng for. THen when it renderded out infinal cut, it was a dollar sign again. SO then i had to change it to a dollar sign in motion in able to get it to render outt as a pound. Weird stuff. HOpe you get your path figured out.

Did you try selecting the point and moving it with the keystrokes cmnd + arrow keys & cmnd+ shift + arrow keys. If that doesn’t work, will it let you create another point, and then let you move that one?

pretty well for stills but as far as animatiing the mask, don’t expext anything too precise (between fingers or anything like that.) I wouldn’t recomend it for real rotoscoping work. it dosn’t quite have a robust toolbox, but it’ll work of for basic shapes, but nothing too complex.
