Jpgs aren’t really optimal for titles as there is compression on them, so it’ll result in soft edges rather than crisp ones especially when you scale them. Also if you distort it rather than scale it constrained that’ll make it look worse. I’d also check in the motion tab to make sure all of the titles have an even number for the position of the horozontal axis. anything that isn’t an even whole number will usually make it look bad.
As far as the PSDs are concerned, did you scale them? What size were they created at in photoshop?

when you open a previous project there is an option for scaling faster or better. was there some motion you had added to the livetype files in FCP and mybe you accidentally clicked the faster check box when you opened it.

FCP is always going to open a project b/c it assumes you are opening the program to do some editing. If you have it set to not open the most recent project, it’ll default to a blank project. That’s the two options as it is only a checkbox feauture. If you want to open a specific project from the get go, just navigate to that porject in the finder and open it from there.

It can be done in FCP, but it’d be much more easily done in AE or Motion.

October 31, 2007 at 2:49 pm in reply to: OT – G5 vs. Octo-Core Comparisons

Comming off a G5 Dual 2.0 to a octo-core 3.0 the most significant speed increase I’ve noticed is a 2 or 3 time increase in the compressing time through compresser. My dual was painfully slow and made me dread having to compress anything longer than a 5 min peice. Now Now it’s much faster. Also. AE will see a significant render boost as well. Haven’t really noticed if FCP renders faster though. Also I can now run motion without getting a damn warning evertime i exceede a graphics limit. Gotta at least get a ATI X1900XT, and ram that machine up. I agree with walter. Buy whatever you can afford now b/c then you’ll more than likely be able to last on that machine longer. If you buy something middle of the road now, you’ll feel like you need to upgrade it much sooner.

I just found some DV/DVCPRO NTSC and that came in correctly. so it looks like it’s just my 720×486 files that it’s not liking

I’m using quicktimes (MOoV) in Uncompressed YUV 8bit and 10bit (2vuy and v210 respectively).
Those are currently the only two codecs i have on my machine.
I just tried animation as well and got the same result. still coming in square.

Thanks, I checked AE help and didn’t even see those three flyouts. I read though the rules found this one

    # soft rule; assume 720×486 formats with all frame rates have NTSC DV/D1 pixel aspect ratio
    720, 486, *, *, * ~ 648/720, *, *, *, *, *

It does not seem to be doing it’s function since i’m still coming up square and not D1. Should I still try and modify the rule even though it’s already there?
