August 2, 2007 at 11:15 amIt’s worth whatever anyone will pay for it. Look on eBay for your computer and see what it has sold for there. the Cow Classifieds are a great place to list first though. I’ve sold a bit of stuff through there and for me it’s easier to deal with than eBay.

August 2, 2007 at 12:29 pmIt can vary a lot but I just sold a very similar system for just under $1,500.
That was without any software, however. If you’re actually selling the software you’ll get a lot more. If, on the other hand, you’re keeping the discs and not selling the software, you should remove it from the computer if you want to keep using it on your new system.

August 2, 2007 at 12:44 pmDo you need to sell it to pay for the new computer. If not, keep it and relegate it to minor duties that would otherwise be performed on the new system and tie it up. Just a thought.

August 2, 2007 at 2:41 pmNot trying to be THAT guy… but here goes.
If you’re planning to keep and install all of that software on your new Mac Pro, you should really do a fresh install and not advertise it for sale with all of the software.
Just saying,

Just noticed that. You can’t sell that software if you plan to install it on your new machine. Absolutely illegal to do so. If you plan to keep the original software and install it on a new machine, you MUST erase all of that from the machine you’re selling.
If you are getting rid of Studio 2 altogether and the other software, then you MUST include all the original discs, manuals, etc… with the sale of the computer.

This is what we do. It gives us nice DV workstations etc. Were currently upgrading my system which is the same computer you have, and we’re bumping it to one of the smoke editors, so he can use it for email as well as using it for livetype and Motion to bring into the smoke.

Amen, I had a boss that bought a computer like that once, he thought he was getting a great deal. But all he got was an overpriced computer and a drive full of illegal software.
But this boss want vary honest anyway so he would not purchase legit software for it.
Wipe the drive and reinstall the OS, they can then set up there own user account on the computer.

August 2, 2007 at 5:53 pm….can you even get a Quad still? I’m assuming you mean the G5 Quad…. not a 4 core Intel? I would say it’s not even worth selling a Dual G5 for a Quad at this point – might as well spend money on a 4 year workhorse.

August 2, 2007 at 7:56 pmI recently sold a G5 2.0ghz DP for $1500 with just OS X 10.4.10 installed. It had 1.5 GB of ram and a 300GB HD. The buyer also bought a ProTools Rack 002 package for use on the G5.
best of luck with your G5 sale.
I’ll echo the suggestion to buy an Intel Mac Pro as a replacement. That’s what I’m doing.

BTW… I still have a G4/500 AGP with a Sonnet processor upgrade and ATI 9800 Pro video card serving as my back up Mac. 🙂
