I’d either sit down and scan all the tapes (or pay someone else to) making notes of every time the TC goes out of a normal numeric sequence. then incriment the tapes into parts. For instance notes on one tape
would say TC

11:00:00:00-15:00:00:00
Break
2:00:00:00-4:00:00:00
Break
1:00:00:00-2:00:00:00

then name each chunk as a tape so tape 001 would now be 001a 001b 001c.

then take your notes and modify the reel names in your batch list…and capture.

Unfortunately with your tapes that have multiple areas with the same TC…you’ll have

I usually do this if there’s some sort of timecode problem. It works well. Not sure how you’d accomplish this where you are right now…unless you already have noted somewhere which tapes have messed up TC.

It’s possible to do it in motion…but slightly easier in After Effects. At least I find keyframing masks easier in AE.

Essentially the same concept (multiple times)…only you would have to be masking your moving video layer(s) rather than your freeze frame layers.

Open the files as an image sequence in Quicktime and save it out that way first. Or AE can load it as an image sequence. FCP isnt meant to handle that many large stills.

Wonder if that Model of Panasonic Plasma is like the X-box 360 with it’s 60%is fail rate. I’ve had friends go through five of them. Or maybe you just have the worst luck in the world in regards to that display. Best of luck.

It’s super annoying that no one has the same specs for delivery. I usually keep a couple project templates on the desktop for the one’s that want specific bars/tone layout. That way once the spot is done I can just copy the spot and slate int a template project and export that for droplet use.

Thanks…this is spot on the information I was looking for.

While the Macs are running xSan 2.2 to communicate with the San..I have no idea how the San is actually configured. It’s shared storage between 3 Final Cut suites and 2 Smoke suites.

We were told to keep these on the SAN.

[Craig Thomas Quinlan] “you mentioned sleeping the xsan clients; do not sleep computers connected to the xsan, or any san for that matter. Completely disable sleep. This is best practice for any san setup.”

This is something they(the company who built it and who we pay for tech support)forgot to tell us…until we started noticing the problem. That makes me wonder how much other stuff they didn’t tell us because they didn’t know or just didn’t remember.

yeah that link still isn’t working….you shouldn’t need to mess with the framerate of your timeline. Just mess with the parameters of the strobe effect.

make sure there aren’t any overlapping audio/video tracks on other layers.
