Delivery Automation
Hi All…
More and more often, we are delivering content to cable providers via the internet.
While Compressor and Final Cut make easy work of encoding some drudgery remains.Different destinations use different methods of delivery. Some use FTP sites and some use web based submission.
Everybody has different formatting requirements.
So while the encoding part can be automated, and FTP delivery can be automated….I was wondering who else has to deal with the rest of this and how?
I started looking at using Automator in combination with Quicktime Pro. Looks like I could get there going that route.
However, I am curious as to whether there are more elegant solutions for this?
Then again, there are always interns, I suppose. 🙂

Hey Alex,
Compressor has droplets that might be useful for you. Have you tried creating one?

Hi David…
I love droplets! They do help with encoding and delivery of FTP based material.
Part of our problem is the formatting on the front end and delivery to web portals on the back end.
Some ppl need Bars and tone and slate, some not, various legnths.

I’m not familiar with Job actions….is that FCS 3 implementation?

It’s super annoying that no one has the same specs for delivery. I usually keep a couple project templates on the desktop for the one’s that want specific bars/tone layout. That way once the spot is done I can just copy the spot and slate int a template project and export that for droplet use.

I built a spreadsheet that goes by destination, lists clients associated with each destination, formatting, naming and compression specs (as well as login info, etc)
Then I built template sequences that match the formatting.
I just dupe the sequence and rename, and cut the material into the template.
then I export reference QT’s and throw them on the droplets….
oh well…
Least I know somebody else things this is a drag too! 🙂

yeah it’s a royal pain in the you know what.
different codecs, and delivery ways.
I can’t even use compressor for 1 local station because
they require 80mbps 1080i mpeg files. So I use adobe media encoder.
It does have a post ftp upload function which is kinda cool though.
