From the release notes:
Dynamic Guides may not appear when Motion is first installed and opened. If Dynamic Guides do not appear by default, press the N key two times. The N key turns snapping on and off for the Dynamic Guides.

January 19, 2008 at 2:44 pm in reply to: OPT+click+drag to copy transitions strangenessIt’s not a preferences problem, the “frankenstein” 1 frame transition (that can’t be modified) happens in this situation:
– You have a transition on the timeline with centre alignment.
– You copy (either by option-dragging or Cmd-C/Cmd-V) this transition to an edit which has zero frames available as a handle on the incoming clip.
– FCP resizes the transition to 1 frame with ‘starting at’ alignmentIf the source transition is aligned to start or end then the problem doesn’t occur.

You would need to open the Trim Edit window (Command-7) in order to hear the audio when doing a ripple edit. Make sure you have enabled ‘Dynamic Trimming’ (checkbox near the bottom of the Trim Edit window) and also ‘Audio Scrubbing’ (Shift-S).
It’s not possible to hear audio when doing slip or slide trimming because those types of trim can’t be adjusted in the Trim Edit Window.

January 17, 2008 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Allright….I can’t take it anymore, whats the “supersecret”This is funny that people are getting upset about something that was never going to happen anyway. Michael Horton, who runs the supermeet has been using the “super secret” line in the billings of the meetings for years. See here for example and count how many times “super secret” is mentioned.
(from Michael’s own lips) super secret = unconfirmed content
AppleInsider should have done their research properly before posting the “rumour” but they didn’t.

January 14, 2008 at 7:23 am in reply to: importing images to FCP: pixel aspect ratio problemWhat pixel dimensions are these images? If they’re not 720×576 then FCP won’t change the pixel aspect ratio to PAL.

January 14, 2008 at 6:47 am in reply to: Clip Markers not functioning properly in sequenceUnfortunately that’s the way FCP is designed but you’re not alone Sara in wanting these things! Hopefully Apple will improve clip markers in a future version.

The usual reason that error message is shown is if you have slug or graphic loaded into the Viewer and you click the Insert or Assemble buttons on the ETT window. FCP is trying to edit a non-video source to tape and it can’t.
In my experience, the most reliable way to do an ETT is to drag the sequence from the Browser to the Insert or Assemble overlay in the ETT window.

December 13, 2007 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Building out six FCP suites: curious about YOUR setupsI’ve always been a subscriber to the “if the source is digital, you should take the footage in directly without any tweaking of levels” school of thought. The advantages are
a) less chance of errors.
b) it makes recapturing a no-brainer because it’s perfectly matchable to the original capture.Martin

System Settings > Memory & Cache > Still Cache is where the setting is. It’s 10% by default but if you increase it, you’ll get further down the sequence before you need to render.
