I have a technical problem. For some reason all titles need to be
rendered after a certain point on the timeline (they are “red” and
won’t play), and this happened all of a sudden at the end of the day
today after hours of subtitling with no problem. I thought the sequence became corrupt, but nothing happens when I copy/paste the whole movie into a new sequence.
    Using FCP 6 – P2 footage in 720p
Any ideas as to what i’m dealing with??

I don’t know what you are using for your subtitles, I’m guessing it’s just a text bit, tho, right? What’s probably happened is that you’ve laid the titles over clips that have filters or something else in them. I don’t know without actually looking at your timeline, but that’s where I’d start. The only other thing that you might have done is turned off RT effects via the keyboard or a mis-clicked mouse, so you might check your settings for that.

I had the same problem this week. You have maxed out your real time buffer. It seems to be proportionate to the ram and processor speed, i.e. the more you got, the more you get! You could try to play with your “RT” setting but your best bet is to render some of your sub-titles.

Just for fun render some of the “green” subtitles and watch what happens to the “red” ones. I bet some of the red batch will turn to realtime.

I’m just using the title tool, it’s just a rough cut that i have to present so i thought this would be super simple and i have about 15 minutes worth of foreign language footage.

I’ll look into your suggestions in the morning, thank you

    Frederick,

This is not uncommon – I’m working on a heavily subtitled doc and am running up against this phenomenon. I think I remember reading that there’s a buffer for the max number of titles and when you hit it, you need to render. I haven’t found a way around it yet.

BTW, I can wholeheartedly recommend DH_Subtitle filter from Digital Heaven, though it may be a bit late now you’ve done a lot in title tool.

    HTH,

    Jason

I second that. Digital Heaven Subtitle tool is easy too use and easy to read.

System Settings > Memory & Cache > Still Cache is where the setting is. It’s 10% by default but if you increase it, you’ll get further down the sequence before you need to render.
