Higher Quality can mean many things. What’s the goal?
The Quality setting sets how compressed the JPEG is but regardless of how it’s set you’ll always produce a 72DPI file when you export from FCP.
If you need to increase the DPI then you’d have to open the file in Photoshop (or other image editing app) and change it there.

What are the Field Dominance settings of your clip in the sequence and the sequence itself? Also what codec is the clip using?

Go to your Sequence Settings > Render Control and set the Motion projects settings to Quality = Normal and uncheck “Always Use Best Quality When Rendering Movies”.

No you can’t. Like I said, FCP never reconnects media using source reel and timecode which is what you want to do in this situation. It uses file name and frame offset from the start of the file and that’s it.
You will have to replace the clips manually with your full res media.

No it’s not possible. Unlike Avid and some other systems, FCP can’t reconnect to media using timecode and reel name.

Minimum is one frame. But you’d have to constantly change the figures depending on what type of trim you’re doing. Also the Play Around Current command is one of the most useful features in FCP when used with a preroll or postroll of a couple of seconds.

Interesting idea but it’s not very workable in practice. If you’re coming from an Avid background then in most cases there is usually an alternative and faster method of achieving something rather than trying to duplicate the Avid function.

January 19, 2008 at 10:47 pm in reply to: trim w/sequence audio vs trim w/edit selection audioYour sum up of the situation is spot on. The audio monitoring preferences in trim mode are quite confusing.
For the example you gave of making a video only roll trim to reposition a cut while making the trim decision based on audio, I would not do this in the Trim Edit Window.
Instead, select the video only edit point in the Timeline. Then scrub to position the playhead on the frame you want to move the edit to and simply press ‘E’ to ‘Extend’ the selected edit point.

Yes, JKL dynamic trim only works in the Trim Edit Window.
It’s not possible to do a ripple trim on a gap across all tracks in the TEW but if you fill the gap with Slug (right-click on the gap) then it will work as expected. Personally I’ve never wanted to ripple trim a gap in the TEW, I would just move the clips in the Timeline.
Regarding slipping/sliding, just a correction on what I said before. You can actually slip a single clip in the TEW with the mouse if you like (check the manual for the how to) but you have to locate the frame, then snap the in or out of the clip to that frame. Dynamic trimming in slip mode, slipping multiple clips or sliding clips is not possible in the TEW.
