Reconform based on Timecode?
Is there any way to do this (I don’t think there is)?
I did a HD conform of a video. Clips loaded with 1sec handles. Several days later there are now :90 and :60 cutdowns. We rent HD decks when we need them so I can’t simply Batch Conform.
I will need to connect the clips from the 90 and 60 cutdowns to the captures I already have.But it seems like FCP doesn’t care so much about TC, but the file’s name and it’s duration. any attempts at reconnecting end up in disaster.
Honestly conforming by hand won’t take more than 30 minutes, but I do know our Flame system can reconnect like I want, and it’s such a great timesaver.

What happens when you try and reconnect?

Did you use Media Manager to make an offline sequence (with same length handles), then reconnect that… or are you using the original sequence, which expects the longer length original media to still be there?

Well the file names don’t match. That is, in the 3 minute piece you have “ree12 1” “reel2 2” “reel2 3” clip names. So a unique name from each clip.
But in the :60 cutdown maybe we only use the second shot, but it gets named “reel2 1” by FCP, since it’s the first reel2 shot in the cut.

That should not matter. The file names do not have to match the clip name. Have you tried what I suggested using Media Manager?

the original capture was from a CMX EDL. Not a MMed project. would this cause probs?

No it’s not possible. Unlike Avid and some other systems, FCP can’t reconnect to media using timecode and reel name.

For Avid editors learning FCP -
Well, not automagically, but you can reconnect to whatever you want in FCP.
Just point to the file and hit reconnect unchecking the matched name only option.

The problem arises when you have hundreds of clips. It become a hunt and peck match, leaving a lot of room for human mistake.

There is no doubt about that. This boils down to FCPs clip name based media management. It gets you every time.
So let me get this straight, you have a long online timeline with long captures and cuts. You then cut down to 60 or 90 seconds and you want to move that to it’s own project with it’s own media or are you taking an offline timeline and reconnecting to online captures?
If all of your media is online and you need to separate the cut down, why can’t you just use the media manager from the online timeline? Where does the reconnection come in? Sorry, Aaron I am getting confused. Give me a run down of the workflow real quick and why you need to reconnect.
