History has shown us that Apple acquires products, technology and intellectual property, develops them, markets them (like no other company can) and occasionally kills them. What they NEVER do is sell product lines to competitors.
Also over the past few years Apple have built up a end-to-end media pipeline – Final Cut Studio for creation, iTunes for distribution and iPod/iPhone/Apple TV for playback. You can bet this didn’t happen by accident and it puts Apple in a unique position that their competitors would kill for but are very unlikely to match. The likelihood that they’d surrender any part of this valuable pipeline is extremely low.
IMHO those are two of the major reasons why a Pro Apps sale will never happen. In the meantime, these irrational FUD rumours are quite irresponsible and damaging to what is such a great community.

Even putting aside the cultural reasons why any sale is as likely as Britney becoming a nun, a sale to Thomson would be a terrible idea. Totally inappropriate fit for the vast majority of the FCP userbase.
FCP’s main competitor isn’t Avid anymore. It’s Adobe.

The phrase “storm in a teacup” is one that comes to mind.
It has never been in Apple’s culture to build products up and sell them on. Most companies do this but not Apple because they are master magicians of control. Selling a part of the company amounts to a hurting of pride and shows weakness. Would they have pulled out of the NAB show floor if Avid hadn’t pulled out first? No chance.
A major factor in the resurgence of Apple has been their ability to acquire other companies in their quest for control over a market sector. The Pro Apps are a shining example of this and the strategy has paid off brilliantly.
Spinning Pro Apps off to a wholly owned subsidiary (like the Filemaker Inc situation) might be a possibility but why would they bother? FileMaker Inc branding makes sense for a cross-platform database where the Apple name could be seen as detrimental to suit-wearing Windows users but the advantages of Pro Apps being part of the Apple brand would seem to far outweigh any disadvantages. Ultimately Pro Apps sell Macs, there’s an undeniable link there.
What is for certain is that since the iMac, Apple has finally broken out of their pro user niche of music, video and publishing and become a massively successful consumer company. Does that consumer success naturally lead to dumping all or part of the pro user market where Apple are now in a uniquely powerful position? I very much doubt it. Mr Jobs isn’t known for giving up hard won control so easily.

Importing image sequences is very clearly covered in the fine manual.
However…the bad thing about importing image sequences directly into FCP is that the images are loaded into RAM, so IMHO they’re best avoided.
There is a third party app called SilverStack which I believe is designed to do batch conversions to QT
https://pomfort.com/silverstack/It may also be possible to write an Applescript to convert image sequences to QT.
or if you’re happy importing to Motion then just save the Motion project and bring that into FCP.

I would bet if you do an export to QT first then encode, it will work as expected.

How are you getting from FCP to the MPEG-2 file? Sending directly to Compressor from the sequence, or exporting a QT and then encoding that in Compressor?

If you were happy how it looked in FCP5 then that’s the same as “Normal” quality in FCP6.
The Best quality option was introduced in FCP6 but it makes a big difference to the render time.

Hmm weird. Sorry I don’t know then. I think there were some changes to how interlacing is handled in v6 but not for the situation you’re in.
