Nice idea… but will not work. You still have the Quicktime wrapper. You’ll need something like this to do what you need.

Why not just copy the file to an external hard drive?
You can get a small Western Digital USB drive for less than $100 that will do just fine for transferring data.

Are you rendering you clips after making these speed changes?
It sounds like you are trying to play them in realtime without rendering. This will happen if this is the case.

Should be no problem at all…
If I can do this sort of thing with a G5 Dual 2.7 with 4 gig of RAM. Surely, a MacBook Pro will, too. If you’re running a MacPro now, your render times will be slower but folks do this sort of work with MacBook Pros all of the time.

I’m sorry… but haven’t you been reading the threads about FCS3 when it came out.
No… It is not 64-bit. If it were, Apple would have waiting until after releasing Snow Leopard.
FCS3 is more of an update to repair all of the major issues people were having. It would have been much better to call this a point five upgrade than a full point upgrade.

Very true… Specific looks do require that you have a color correction monitor. But again, using FCP is much like getting your pilot’s license. You’ll have to learn to fly by instruments before you can get your license.
I once had a college professor say that monitors lie, scopes do not. If creating a specific color effect, know your scopes and how the colors translate to it. This will keep you broadcast legal.

Not entirely true. BUT… Yes, it is ALWAYS a good idea to color correct with a proper monitor, but if you learn how to read your scopes, you’ll be dead on every time. Learn how to read a vectorscope, waveform and the parade scopes. It’s not that difficult and you’ll have an easier time outputting your projects properly for broadcast. This works with FCP and Color.

Yes… Long GOP does play an important role into XDCAM’s viability to most.
But, we’ve been using XDCAM since the beginning of the format and other than waiting on full support from Apple a few years ago. We’ve found the format to be rather robust and clean. Easy to edit and work with. Mixes with ProRes extremely well. We have yet to have any broadcast facility complain about the quality of video.
Crashes almost always occur when the systems are not configured properly – odd memory sizes or not enough memory. Oh yeah… keeping the Sony software and your decks up to date is also a big help.

Do you have version 1.01 of Colorista?
If so, here’s a work around for you. Set your footage to interlaced. Put on a deinterlace filter, then use Colorista. It should work just fine after that.
