Ok, we are having a jolly brilliant time trying to deal with time remapping not looking like snot sideways in FCP. I don’t want to have to take every clip we have to do this to and muck around in AE, I’d like if the time-remap controls in FCP actually worked the way they are advertised. So, we’ll presume I’m doing something wrong.

Our footage is shot on Sony EX1’s in 1080i 60, and imported directly to FCP without any transcoding. They play well, and most look great (I’m really enjoying the cameras, which is nice) but any time we remap, we’re getting jittery footage and it looks crap. Doesn’t matter if we speed or slow down, it’s crap.

    Any help?

Are you rendering you clips after making these speed changes?

It sounds like you are trying to play them in realtime without rendering. This will happen if this is the case.

I’ve never shot with the EX1, what codec is that? Is the 60i real or derived?

I shoot conventional DV and FCP’s time remapping and speed adjustment functions produce lovely results especially if I carefully select the segment and then have Motion run Optical Flow on it.
