Colorista in Final Cut Pro 6 NOT working
Posted by The Edit doctor on January 8, 2008 at 7:39 amI’m using a G5 Power PC not intel latest QUICKTIME AND final cut pro 6.0.2 update… still… I can’t get colorista to NOT split/corrupt the shot it’s color correcting in HD formats. 10 bit seemed to be the problem but it does in both 8 bit and 10 bit.
So, DVCPRO HD, PRORES even HDV is corrupted by using Colorista. Anyone else????
Please don’t say, switch to COLOR. This is a peticular issue with Colorista that I need some feeback on…

January 8, 2008 at 9:21 amI’m seeing a different problem but its showing up (or not showing !!) in both Colorista and 3way Colour Corrector.
Basically – the plugins look as if they are behaving, yet it makes absolutely no difference to the shot they are applied to, nor do the changes show up in the scopes either.
And i know it worked last week because i used it on a different commercial.

Nope. It’s working fine here with DVCPro HD on three different machines. Just the usual clipping issue on clips over 100% white, but the Pro Amp takes care of that.

January 8, 2008 at 6:01 pmGood, thanks Walter.. I was hoping you’d respond. Your machines that it is working on… are they all intel machines?
Also, there was no update to colorista that I feel asleep through?
I trashed prefs..the usual stuff. Anything 10bit in HD the image got actually split into two images. ProRes always… prohd now is doing it as well. 8bit and 10bit.
Thanks Walter… I’ll that helps

January 8, 2008 at 6:03 pmYeah, I had that as well. Colorista was applied and then I’d make any change to the plugin AFTER it was applied – Nothing happened on the CANVAS. I had to add a second Colorista to affect new changes.

Nope. Two intel machines, one G5 Dual 2.0.

Only what’s on the Red Giant website.
Not really sure what to tell you on this one. Might want to drop an email to Red Giant to see if they have any ideas.

January 8, 2008 at 8:35 pmAre you guys using Colorista 1.01?
I have a similar setup as yours and I haven’t seen anything like this at all. If you do have the newest version, I would suggest that you delete your prefs and restart FCP.

January 10, 2008 at 1:54 amSorry so late on this thread…now that it is BURIED.
FCP 6.0.2…OS 10.4.11…Dual 2Ghz G5.
Colorista is crashing the system. I can apply it and it works, but as soon as I put the playhead over the clip on the timeline, CRASH CITY.
Dang…I love this plugin. But Red Giant is moving on to LOOKS. and I guess I have to dig into COLOR. But I like being able to color correct on my FCP timeline, and do power windows, and have the colors not NEON out on me.
Sigh.

So far we’re very underwhelmed with Looks. There is no immediate feedback on the external monitors when you are making your adjustments. You have to close the filter to update your external monitor. That just doesn’t work very efficiently.

I can get you a great DVD to help you! 🙂

June 12, 2008 at 8:55 pmAnyone find a fix to the Colorista-FCP6 split/corruption problem? I recently upgraded to FCP 6 and whenever I apply Colorista now, it splits/corrupts the image. I’m editing in HDV btw.
