Hey Mohamed,

Keep editing, then do some more editing, before keep on editing, and repeat that process.

However, if you go niche, and become really good in editing for specific segment:
Documentaries, commercials, music videos, Broadcast News, Magazine, discussions, feature films or anything that takes your fancy.
Then you’ll be able to home in on customers that will pay you for doing what you like to do the most.

Don’t forget to upskill at all times – learn Photoshop & After Effects, or similar.

Use other editing platforms, as we don’t know at which point Adobe will put their professional tools in a grave, and only do Prosumer…
You could teach yourself Davinci Resolve (+Fusion), FCPX and Avid + maybe Vegas too.
Once an editor, and good at that, the tool matters less than your style of working and editing.

Also get good at Motion Graphics, grading, audio sweetening/repair and creating masters that will not fail QC.

Easy, right?
Don’t worry, it only takes 10,000 hours to get there.

Have you investigated using the Adobe Meta-data function?

If in a rush, there are also PPro specific storage solutions that will use A.I. to analyse your footage.

SNS share-browser as an example should run inside Premiere Pro, except you will need their storage to use it:

In short, there is no easy solution.

Having said that, it just might do it, if you run Adobe transcription on all of your rushes.
Maybe then search on the song text – haven’t tried it myslef, but you don’t know what you know, until you have done it.
(Assuming that all your tracks are English language!?)

Hey Kevin,

I don’t know, sorry. As I already have the full package as part of Continuum.

But, depending on the shapes that you are flying with, you might be able to pull a key on the background.
Not sure if the project is portable, but you might be able to do a one month rental when exporting and do it at that point.

I’m working on PPro today, and there it has both 2D and 3D options + “Particle Illusion” which has presests that are close to your example.

If it does the job, You can buy, or subscribe monthly to a package that works with in AE.

Otherwise, you could also look at Blender 3D animation.

Copy the audioclips to a track below your merged clips, might be the way forward.
You can always mute the tracks, if you only want them for “nice to have” or hand-over later to audio facility.
But you still have to be careful with staying in sync.

Hey Christopher,

Don’t know if this is relelvant, but you can add Timecode Overlay to the video that you are exporting in the PPro Media Encoder (internal or external).

Use Timecode Overlay to add a timecode counter to your exported video under the heading “Effects settings”.

The following options are available:

• Position – Sets the relative position of the timecode within the output frame. For example, Center, Top Left, Bottom Right.

• Offset (X,Y) – Specifies the horizontal and vertical offsets (in pixels) of the timecode within the output frame.
  

• Size – Adjusts the size of the timecode display.
  

• Time Source – Specifies how timecode is generated.

  • Media File – Reads Timecode from the source media. If the source media is not detected, timecode overlay starts at zero and matches the source’s frame rate.

    • Offset in Frames – Specifies the
      number of frames by which the timecode overlay is offset from the
      source’s timecode. You can enter positive or negative values for the
      offset.

  • Generate Timecode – Generates custom timecode for the overlay.

    • Format – Select the timecode format in frames per second. For example, 25-fps Timecode.
    • Starts at – Sets a starting value for the timecode.

Hey Martin,

I have no issue with the technical quality, although I did not put it through my scopes.

Rather than reworking the same trailer, how about taking a TV series or a Movie that you like?
Tell the interesting highlights of the story in 2 minuttes, without giving the plot away.
That is the art of editing a trailer.

Maybe get the camera out (even a mobile camera) and shoot a your own advert – add all the fun stuff, and you could be editing commercials.

Many of the best people in the industry that I’ve enountered, spent a year in their bedroom or garage doing this, before emerging to be amongst the best in their class.

Keep doing the same, better, won’t neccessearily make you better.
But doing the same, better, but with different footage will make you better as you get challenged.

Whatever you chose, just keep doing it.

Hey Martin,

That is a good try, but there is a few ideas that you might want to consider:

1) I’m not a great fan of vertical video, not least as in the instance the helicopter is a better placed filling out a 16:9 screen 😉

2) Yes, it is a modern take, but what’s the story, and who are the characters? You might want to speed up the intro a bit?

3) Where’s the love? Who and why is airwolf doing this? And why should we be interested in that helicopter?

4) The sound is clean, too clean – would like to hear some more atmos, maybe a few sound effects like whooshes, pings and explosions + all the other stuff.

5) Music Is OK, but what is the connection to the violin?

Keep it up and you’ll keep getting better! If you’re not already using it, the Premiere Pro transcribe will help you get faster to sound-bites that you are looking for.

Hey Doug,

Davinci will run on Mac, PC and Linux.
Obviously there will be the cost of your Avid editors training on it.
Instead designate one or two workstations to create the proxies and distribute from there, leaving the bigger pool of editors to continue as is with Avid.

Just thinking out loud.

Hey Doug,

Although on PC, I can run Adobe, Davinci and Avid on the same machine.

So maybe take a pun, and install Davinci (“Studio” for Arri files, I think) on one or two of your Avid machines.
Just to see where it takes you, without upgrading anything.
