[mlondon] “Also the field dominance is Upper. I’m used to seeing lower for DV, I assume Upper is correct for SD Uncompressed.”

This is correct. If you use the easy setups, it will be configured for you.

[mlondon] “he Black Magic PAL 10-bit preset for Device Control has the Playback Offset set to + 00:00:00:04. Why is that?”

This is just the default settings. You’ll need to do a few tests to see if it will work with your deck. Some decks may require a different value.

[mlondon] “Also, in the BlackMagic Manual it talks about “Preserving Blanking Data or VANC” on 3 video lines at the top of a captured movie. Is this anything I should be thinking about using?”

Not really. Unless you’bve got closed captions, VITC or some other data in the blanking of your video you want to preserve.

You don’t really need to connect the REF this way. The card will output stable black video when in capture mode so that your deck can lock to it. Just enable that option the Blackmagic Preferences Pane and make sure the “To Deck” SDI output is connected to the input of the deck.

[Francois Stark] “I’m running a Decklink Extreme SD card and want to know if the Proc Amp settings in the Decklink control panel changes the analogue video before it is digitised, or is it a digital multiplication that is added after digitising the signal?”

    Hi,

The Pro Amp changes the analog video input before digitising. It is done via hardware and not software.

    Hi Jeremy,

Channel B Input is used for dual link 4:4:4 HD-SDI. It cannot be used as a seperate SDI input.

[Sean ONeil] “Are you saying that the UB version running on a Power PC Mac will still require new drivers from Blackmagic?”

    Hi Sean,

If you’re running a UB version of Final Cut Pro on the current (non-Intel) G5s, our current drivers will work just fine. If you’re running the UB version of Final Cut Pro on any future Intel Macs, you’ll need a UB version of our drivers.

  • [Ethan Cooper] “You are referring to the preferences listed under system preferences aren’t you?”

Yes. Do make sure you’re running the latest version of our drivers as the older version might not have 720p down conversion support.

Universal binary versions will require universary binary drivers for our cards. I’m pretty sure we will want to support these new versions of the Pro Apps when they ship.

  • Hi,

Yes, we support 720p59.94 down conversion. Just turn on 720p down conversion in the Blackmagic DeckLink Preferences.

    Hi,

Yes, we definitely want to support as many different formats as possible so we’re looking into it. I seem to say that a lot 🙂 but it’s true.
