I’m using 18′ (~6m) USB cables into a USB hub and 3′ cables from that, with no issues. But ymmv.

I wasnt sure it was going to work, but it does. On the flip side, I’d love to know any tricks to extend the range of Bluetooth, because I can’t get the magic trackpad to work well more than 3′ away, and definitely not out of the machine room.

July 19, 2011 at 4:02 pm in reply to: Modifying Timecode With XML

I have had friend who are a bit more comfortable with coding than I am write simple Find & Replace scripts with a little math in it for a program that got telecine’d with timecode exactly 10 minutes off.

You can just open the XML in text edit, but at that point it’s most often fast to just do a visual match in FCP. Although since I’ve done loads of conforms from scratch from projects with no timecode, I’ve got really fast, so YMMV…

I would look into seeing if you can open the XML in some sort of Spreadsheet software. I remember using excel to let assistant producers log with a HDV deck back in the days of tape, and getting that into FCP. There were even scripts that could convert the files into XML’s. You *might* get some sort of mileage out of that workflow.

Please post your results if you find anything.

  • Rob, There are plenty of curves in DaVinci. Or perhaps I’m hallucinating about the Tools I use everyday.

You might want to check under the “Curves” tab.

I don’t know, personally I’ve never been a big fan of the Magic Bullet/Colorista tools. Not enough control.

In terms of easily adjusting skin tones, The Hue v. Hue, Hue v. Sat curves, and sometimes just the plain old Hue Knob are what I use.

Often just a slight tweak there gets you where you need to go.

I would totally love a linked node with a specific ID.

I would also love the capabilty to copy/paste/duplicate nodes with a simple command.

Is it all offset by an hour or something? Or all completely off? If it’s all completely I think you’re just in for a painful conform.

Have you tried running FCP without resolve running? Resolve locks down the io card.

I saw that they also have the 480, that’s 440 Cuda Cores, but they also mention that it prefers an external powersupply. Anyone have any experience with it?

I’ve had no issues with the Flashed GTX 285, but the 285 was at one point a supported card, so I had a little less trepidation.

I’m already pretty familiar with a Node based workflow, so using the same key on a bunch on nodes isn’t a big deal.

I’m talking about when I *don’t* want to apply the same key to a bunch of nodes, but I want to duplicate the key *specifically* to change it, blur it, shrink/grow, etc, so it has a different effect.

In shake I remember copy/paste/duping nodes all the time.

  • Get yourself a 50″” panasonic plasma instead, the projector route is minimum 8k, and you have to be careful in small room about the light from your own screens, desk lamp, etc. And a 50 plasma, is usually big enough for getting a good sense of the image.
