on the back of your raids it should have a terminal number for both upper and lower drives. That terminal number should be on all of your raids. I should clarify that you are using a scsi system, Correct? Because if your not this won’t work. Anyway, the scsi card is number one and your raids are numbered sequencially from then on. The last terminal will have a switch that lets you terminate so the scsi doesn’t look for any other drives.

I think Walter Biscardi might disagree. He’s been editing FCP HD for quite a while. Check out his website and then decide. http://www.biscardicreative.com

Well, dealing with firewire kind of sucks anyway but, are the raids correctly numbered and then correctly terminated? Just a thought.

I’ve heard of some serious drop frame issues but nothing on why or how to fix it. Anyone? Anyone?

When FCP crashes for any reason it is remembered in the preference file as a sort of log and it replays that log and works to screw up everything from that point on. The only way to correct it is to trash the pref’s. But, don’t just trash one, trash them all. The sequence is this:

    Go to: Users/[your user name]/Library/Preferences
    Drag, “com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist” to the trash
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Setttings folder
Drag, “Final Cut Pro 5 Preferences” to the trash
Drag, “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache” to the trash
Drag, “Final Cut Pro Prof Cache” to the trash
    Empty the trash.

You’ll need to reset your pref’s but it’s better than what you have now.

When you capture from DV using 24p you need to capture the footage at 29.97 then use compressor to change it to 23.98. Your problems should go away. You need to remember that DV always films at 29.97 no matter what your settings are. So the changes to 23.98 need to occur in the computer. And if you film at 24p Advanced you capture at 29.97 with pulldown removal tool. That will take your footage to 23.98 instantly and in the correct format. But, you want to set your sequences for 23.98. So, it’s capture at 29.97- set sequences at 23.98.

This happened to me once. I used the “arrange” under the windows tab on the top menu to reset everything and it came back.

  • Well, that was a lot of good stuff to try. But, when FCP can’t see the camera, these won’t help much. As you may know, when you try to start FCP it looks for a camera or deck and if it doesn’t see it, it won’t start or it asks you to bypass it. So, the first thing you need to make sure of is that the camera that is attached to your computer is on before you start FCP and that the camera is in the vtr mode. This and the firewire you are using are the only things that would stop FCP from seeing the camera. So,if those two things don’t work I would reinstall FCP.

    Good luck.

Well, this is quite a problem. First off, the Sound should be recorded using three different recorders then each track is put onto FCP on it’s own track. Yes, if you plug your xlr and the 1/8 mike in at the same time you will lose one and maybe both sound input levels because the camera doesn’t know which one to use. As far as graphics, use a 720×680 at 72dpi for a standard 29.97 timeline.

  • If the clip was shot in 24p the pulldown removal can be made by compressor. If it was shot in 24p advanced the pulldown probably won’t work and it needs to be recaptured letting FCP do the pulldown removal.
