October 20, 2005 at 12:48 am in reply to: media start & end offset on digitized clipsYou’re right, it wasn’t in 4.5. In 5.0 fcp has put in a frame offset option in the system setup. The default offset is 4 frames. It also happens when you set your in and out points, it stops 4 frames after you hit the O button. This was done to give you a handle for transitions. Reset the option, I think it’s in the capture tab, to O and try it again. you may need to set it and restart.

October 13, 2005 at 6:07 pm in reply to: FCP502 wants to add 166 GIGS of additional items during each capture? If this only happens on this one project then there’s a capture it thinks it needs to do. Of course, trash all of your preferences and start again. Look at the edl list if you created one and see if there’s something on that.
Good luck.

QT 7 works for FCP 5 and OS 10.4. So you have to use an older version.

September 30, 2005 at 11:41 pm in reply to: how best to convert 16:9 DVCPro50 to 4:3?If it’s HD the Kona 2 card can down rez it with no problem. If it’s SD then there are a lot of ways to get it to look like 4:3. One is to blow it up in FCP using image frame in the canvas window to resize it. but before you do that start a new sequence with the 4:3 settings, copy the old sequence into the new and then resize, render and edit to tape.

You did well. You can’t do a pulldown removal on 24p standard. You need to capture it in 29.97 and take it to compressor to change it to 23.98.

Let me see if I understand. You shot on an HD camera, then used an rs422 control deck attached to a kona 2 card to capture. Then you used the DVC Pro HD codec in the capture window settings. You logged your clips, and used batch capture to get them onto your hard drive. Am I with you so far? The clips should have then showed as being online. The editing should have gone ok, and you want to edit to tape. And you’re saying edit to tape won’t work? Which part of this process broke down?
Did you set your sequence to edit in HD? Sequence settings and capture settings can be different depending on what your doing.

Systems will often slow down after a major upgrade of the OS. This is because everything else is made to run on the older system. So, you need to upgrade just about everything else to match the new system. But, you need to do it in the right order.
Upgrade the OS, upgrade QT, updrade FCP, then upgrade the other applications in the FCP suite. This is for FCP of course but the same thing goes for other applications that may be running slow.

As a general rule of thumb, put all your application files on one drive, internal, and your project files on another.

September 25, 2005 at 3:20 pm in reply to: FCP4 quits immediately when i attempt to log and captureWhat I’m thinking is you need to upgrade QT to 7.0.2. and do capture now when your camera is attached to the computer.
As far as the second persons problem, your preferences somehow got screwed up. Now you’ll hear everyone tell you to trash your preferences but you need to trash all of them, not just the .plist. So, here’s what to do:Go to: Users/(your user name)/Library/Preferences-drag, “com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist” to the trash.
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro foler and sraag “Final Cut Pro preferences” to the trash. Then drag, “Final Cut Pro POA Cache” to the trash. Empty the trash and restart FCP.Good luck.
