    Just got FCP Studio.

I’m interested to know what others’ thinking is when it comes to deciding where to install the ‘extra’ content (and how much, if any, of that content to install right away) that comes with Studio. 41 GB is a whopping big amount.

I have a 160 GB internal system drive, and a 250 GB firewire drive. To date, I have used the firewire drive for capture and render files, and the system drive for everything else.

    I guess I have two questions…

Firstly, would it be smarter to apply a wait-and-see approach for installing the content I’m not sure I’ll be using (i.e. tutorials, loops, etc.), or would it be better to install it all and delete parts later, if the space is needed?

Secondly, where to put that extra content? In terms of maintaining system speed while working in any of the applications, how much would it matter if I had Soundtrack loops, for example, on one drive versus the other?

Thirdly (ok, I couldn’t stop at two questions…), am I making a mountain out of a molehill?

I expect there are different theories, and I’d be most interested to hear them all!…

    Andrew,

You bought the whole box, and Apple did a great job filling it up great stuff. You’ll never know what you’re missing if you don’t install the whole load. Just bite the bullet, go to http://www.newegg.com and get yourself a new Maxtor Maxline III 250gb SATA or IDE hard drive for under $120. here’s no excuse for cheaping out on harddrive space anymore.

As a general rule of thumb, put all your application files on one drive, internal, and your project files on another.
