I have a G5 dual 2.5 w/ 4g of RAM. I have been using the Graid without a single problem and bought a Cooldrives external dual bay firewire enclosure. I also have a lacie PCI firewire 800 card from which I’m running both raids – the Graid plus a a raid from the cooldrives enclosure. I’ve been having all kinds of problems with the enclosure, the raid disappears from my desktop, crashes or freezes just because, etc. I just got the enclosure replaced and problem is even worst. Any ideas? Has anybody had any experience with this cooldrives enclosures?? Oh, the hard drives on the cooldrives enclosure are 2 western digital 300 gig each.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated – thanks.

Well, dealing with firewire kind of sucks anyway but, are the raids correctly numbered and then correctly terminated? Just a thought.

Thank you very much for your quick response. At this point I’m not sure about anything. I know for a fact that both western digital hard drives in the enclosure are set up correctly as master – upper tray – and slave – lower tray. As for the number of the raid I’m not sure. Can you tell me how to check that?

    Thanks in advance.

on the back of your raids it should have a terminal number for both upper and lower drives. That terminal number should be on all of your raids. I should clarify that you are using a scsi system, Correct? Because if your not this won’t work. Anyway, the scsi card is number one and your raids are numbered sequencially from then on. The last terminal will have a switch that lets you terminate so the scsi doesn’t look for any other drives.

No scsi – just firewire 800. I’m connecting both raids – the graid and the cooldrives enclosure – to a Lacie PCI firewire card.

Oops. I see you’re using a PCI card. In this case when you strip two raids together you need to plug each into it’s own pci card. Walter Biscadi talks about this in an article he wrote. go to the creative cow home page click on his face. then scroll down to the article at the bottom of the page.
