    Hey guys,

I was editing HDV footage in FCP 5, all of a sudden FCP packs it in and I had to restart my machine. Now when I open FCP and try to do anything, even moving the playhead in the timeline, it lags then drops frame and cant go on! For some reason it just doesnt want to work any more? when i open a dv project it works nicely. It cant be that the machine isnt coping because it was working perfectly all day.

    Help please?

    Much Appreciated.

When FCP crashes for any reason it is remembered in the preference file as a sort of log and it replays that log and works to screw up everything from that point on. The only way to correct it is to trash the pref’s. But, don’t just trash one, trash them all. The sequence is this:

    Go to: Users/[your user name]/Library/Preferences
    Drag, “com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist” to the trash
Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Setttings folder
Drag, “Final Cut Pro 5 Preferences” to the trash
Drag, “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache” to the trash
Drag, “Final Cut Pro Prof Cache” to the trash
    Empty the trash.

You’ll need to reset your pref’s but it’s better than what you have now.
