An OMF file is just that – a proprietary file. It is QT based, but doesn’t turn it into a QT until you tell it to.
Just tell your IT guy it’s FM.

Could you provide some system specs, such as OS, RAM, video card, Avid software version, if you MOJO, that kind of thing…

Why not use the Pan & Zoom effect in the Avid? Or, just use a PIP and promote it to 3d? How do you need to manipulate the audio?

How fast are your media drives?
Can you playback the sequence and crash record on your camera?

It would really help if you gave some specific details regarding your setup, like current OS, what version AXPro, QT version…
Did you get your system from a reseller, or put it together yourself?

How old is the deck? Sounds like you might have the Panasonic cap problem, where the capacitors would start drying out…

I don’t use 24p, so I’m not sure. Try searching over at avid.com/forums. There’s a section devoted exclusively to 24p.

Depends on where you are going with it.
I use QT to get back into the Avid, and I use the animation CODEC. It gives me the best results.

What version software are you using? What OS, how much RAM, video card etc.? Are you trying to key in Avid, or are you using a plug / 3d party app?

Bringing DV25 in via firewire is lossless – all 1’s and 0’s…
I’m not smart enough to say what happens to it afterwards. I’ve had great success in AXPro. The footage looks good throughout the editing process. I had a heck of a time with DVD, but now that I’ve figured out that process, it’s cake.
Is your footage good? Properly exposed (check by using the Waveform / Vectorscope in the color correction mode), lit well? There are so many variables to quality footage….DV footage is sampled at 4:1:1 – meaning you don’t have that much color information in the first place. What are you using as your base standard to say your footage doesn’t look good?
