  • Problem with Xpress Pro 5.2 – No real-time playback

Posted by Bimdas on March 19, 2006 at 12:39 pm

    Hi,
I’m currently learning the Avid interface and am getting the hang of the modes but on my AMD 64 3000+, when I try and play the footage, the time bar moves but the video doesn’t play and neither does the audio.
I can scrub through the footage and it plays in the record monitor in real-time but when I try and play it, it doesn’t seem to work.
I had previously practised with Xpress on a slower Pentium 4 with no problems but I’ve read around and have noticed alot of people have no troubles with AMD, I’m wondering if its some sort of driver or preference setting?

    thanks

If I’m understanding you correctly, you can scrub through the video in the source monitor but it won’t play. Plays OK in the records monitor and I’ll bet it would play in a pop up monitor if you tried. This leads me to believe that the problem is simply that you have a bin open that is touching or intruding in the source monitor window, which will prevent playback. Try checking that first and just move that bin off the source monitor, should play then. If not, it may be a driver issue, but it seems to me that if it were a driver issue, it wouldn’t play in any monitor.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,
I am having the same problem with my AVID Xpress Pro HD. I can scrub through the source and record monitors but when i try to play them out, the image freezes until I pause it and then it freezes on the frame I paused on. However, the dv firewire feed going into my panasonic dvx camera plays the timeline just fine. then just recently, it won;t play out at all and I keep getting exception fatatl error messages over and over until the prgram crashes. The system I am running is a dual 3.4gh, 2 gigs ram, graphics card nvidia geforce 6800 gs, sli. It’s a great computer, not sure if it’s a setting or something. Any thoughts?

It would really help if you gave some specific details regarding your setup, like current OS, what version AXPro, QT version…

Did you get your system from a reseller, or put it together yourself?
