He finally got it to work. It was a firmware issue solved by loading the update on an SD card and updating the camera.

When you imported it, did you check your options? Make sure you check the ‘don’t resize’ radio button. And import it at 1:1 and see if the quality improves…

If it comes in as a media file (no alpha), you could put on PIP, and keyframe the horizontal position from bottom to top or however you desire.
If it has an alpha, just keyframe the horizontal position.
Make sure to check your options on import. I forget the wording, but you want Avid to NOT resize it.

You could certainly do it in AE. My first thought is to use a matte. You’d have to do it frame by frame, and depending on how long the sequence is, ouch. I obviously don’t know what your footage looks like, so I don’t know if you could key it, or use blending modes, or a combination of the two.
I’d highly recommend getting an AE book by Chris and Trish Meyer – Creating Motion Graphics in After Effect. It’s an amazing resource. You can go through step by step or, like I do, cherry pick what I need and go from there. I would recommend going through the basics chapter to get down moving the cursor, short cuts, etc.

Your best bet is to open the graphic in Photoshop. Create a new file of the correct size on a transparent background, cut and paste yoru graphic in and save as a .png. Keep in mind you may need to clean up the back logo, etc.
Import it into Avid, and viola’! A graphic with an alpha (or matte if you prefer) to do with as you wish.

Yes. Having the correct version of QT is very important, and I’ll bet that’s your problem.

Deck noise? Is it possible you have one of your audio cables hooked up to the TC out?

Try rolling your QT version back to 7.0, and see if that helps. You should be able to find it at the Apple site under ‘downloads’ and searching on QT 7.0…

What version of QT are you using? 4.8.1 requires QT 7.0…

The animation CODEC is probably the best to use. Between a Meridian system and 2 XPress Pro HD systems, I’ve never had a problem getting an animation-based file into any of my systems.
