  • SPX-800 & Firestore FS100 – does it work?

I’ve got a friend who’s got a Pannie SPX-800 camera. He’s trying to get the Firestore to record when he hits the camera record button. Should this work? He doesn’t have any P2 cards installed in the camera, and he does have the firewire out card on the camera (AYG-800???). He’s trying to record plain, SD DVCPro to an Avid OMF file.

Does he have to have P2 cards installed? Is there a setting in the camera?

We know the signal path is working, because we can record by pressing the record button on the firestore.

    Any ideas?

    It will work no problem…

You’ll have to keep in mind what flavor you’re recording. I’ve used it successfully in ‘DV’ mode to record to the FS100 & the FS4.

In DV50 mode, I’ve written successfully to the FS100 – writing P2 files. Never Tried DVCAM 25.

Yes – it will work with the P2 cards as well, in a slaved or non-slaved mode.

Only complaint I had was that sometimes it took a little finaggling for the firestore to start recording (ie: unplugging the firewire cable, etc).

Of course – you’ll have to have the firewire option installed – that’s not a factory issued item.

    Best of luck…

He finally got it to work. It was a firmware issue solved by loading the update on an SD card and updating the camera.
