Multicam will work the same way. To digitize SDI, open the digitize tool and select your source from there.

I just swapped a Mac Meridian system for an XP Mojo system. I think you’ll be pleasently suprised at the stability of XP – it sounds like you’ll be on a new system. As long as it’s an ‘approved’ system, I think the standard troubleshooting applies – delete your MCState, trash the media databases. I’d also get hold of a readme and make sure the video card drivers are correct, and the system has the right amount of RAM.

My workflow goes like this. I’ll subclip multiple takes. Then I go back and I mark an ‘in’ at a common synch point – a clapper, a stick hit, a blink, whatever is common through out all the takes. Sometime, I’ll have to synch further into the clip so all the clips will be lined up. Then I group my clips and start multicam.

According to a quick search (clicky thing), your drives are running at 7200rpm – not fast enough to play back video.

I’m not so sure I can clarify as much as muddy the waters….
When we had XPress Pro,we exported SD at 720X480, 4:3 display. Our ultimate destination is DVD.
On Media Composer, we shoot the majority 16:9, DVCPro 25/50. Avid settings are native, 16:9 display. I used the dimensions of 864×486 in Sorenson, and life seemed good.
However, after giving some footage to a 3d artist, he kept saying the dimensions were 853X480. I brought it into AE, and sure enough, my footage properties showed up as 853X480. I’m using AE 6.5, but I just ordered CS3. Maybe that will clear things up….
My DVD’s and .wmv’s seem to work fine – I’ve had no complaints from customers (other than the 3d artist).
I’m not sure what’s going on. I’ve got a pretty heavy workload right now, and I’m just trying to muddle through until I get a break (at this rate, it’s gonna’ be Christmas…). Hopefully I can solve the case of the missing pixels. Life was so much simpler when all I had to do was give out VHS tape…..

For general info – the 2gb limit is an OS, not an Avid limitation…

I’ve seen this question alot over at the Avid Editing forum. Being a closed shop (we do everything in-house, and use Avid as our edit platform), I have no experience with FCP. Perhaps you can search the forums for the answer to this question.

The easiest way is to take the analog out of the DVD player and run it through a converter (Mojo or your camcorder) into the Avid. There is a program callled StreamClip (google it) that allows you to take the DVD files and convert them to QT (among other files). BE VERY CAREFUL if you put this program on your editor. StreamClip requires either quicktime pro ($30.00USD) or a program called alternate quicktime (a link is on the StreamClip site). If you decide to put this on your Avid, buy QT Pro from Apple and MAKE SURE the version you are putting in your editor is supported by your current Avid software. If you go with QT alternate, I strongly recommend using an entirely different machine, and sneakernetting / transferring the files to your Avid. Bad things happen when you mess with the lesser gods of quicktime….

Firewire is the preferred method (the only method, without a DNA device) to capture your videotape. You’ll need to get a card supported by the software you are using (search Avid’s site for a specific model, or look in your readme file).
