You should be able to download codecs from the Avid site (search ‘download avid codec’). I’m pretty sure everything you need is in there…

Unless you get a firewire card, you won’t be able to capture video from a tape deck through a USB port in Avid.

What software were you using before?

Is it possible your photogs are shooting in progressive? That could explain why it looks bad on the NTSC monitor, but not in the Avid (which uses a progressive scan monitor).

Make sure you are saving same as source. Why not save the original P2 files to DVD, and skip the whole import thing?…

How are you playing back the files? Do you get the same thing when you reimport the file into Avid, or even into something like After Effects?

As long as you have access to the project in the attic, you should be able to open it. Create a new project, go to ‘file>open bin’, and navigate to the attic.

What type of file are you importing? What are your settings?

Try going into the settings and keyframing it. It’s been awhile since I did a rolling title, but it should work as you described.
