Activity Forums Avid Media Composer grouping

I have just moved to LA, CA and am working as an AE in reality tv. I have three years experience in FCP and a year in Avid, but that was three years ago. Of course, I had to switch back to Avid. So I will be in here a bit as I adjust back to it.

We do a lot of grouping with up to 12 cams per group plus back up audio via aux time code. I was wondering if any of you would like to share any techniques for grouping quicker. I keep having offsets of up to a minute and a half, and this becomes quite time consuming when grouping 12 clips.

I group everything first, then check audio/clip offsets and wtite them down, then set up the aux time code and regroup, often finding some are still off a bit.

Just curious if there a technique to speed up the process.
    Thanks.

My workflow goes like this. I’ll subclip multiple takes. Then I go back and I mark an ‘in’ at a common synch point – a clapper, a stick hit, a blink, whatever is common through out all the takes. Sometime, I’ll have to synch further into the clip so all the clips will be lined up. Then I group my clips and start multicam.
