Which Preset are you using? You can set your own EncoreDVD encoding preset or change the one’s there by:
Right click the clip in the project panel,
Transcode Settings,
Edit Quality Presets…,
Make sure you are on “Format: MPEG2 DVD” in the Export Settings on the right.
Change the presets and watch the Estimated File Size on the bottom next to the right of the timeline scrubber for the viewer. It will tell you the size of the file.
Pick one that’s just above the 4.7 (really 4.3Gig) limit of Single Layer DVD-5. Then change the Bitrate settings to tweak the Est. File Size to peak at the limit. 7M/sec is really high quality. 6 is high. 4-5 is average quality.
CBR will have a better Estimate. VBR will give you a better quality over longer period.
Tweak the Min Target Max Bitrates in VBR with the target being the important one.
Going to MPEG-2 will reduce quality to save space.
It sounds like your project is quite long. Using this method will allow you to hit the Save Icon (Disk) next the name of the preset and you can then save it. Select that one and then transcode now.

Hi Dave,
there is nothing wrong with what you are doing. This is what happens to DV and even 1080 HDV widescreen. It’s anamorphic not true 16×9.
You can change the interpret setting in AE by right clicking the clip in the project panel and interpret footage.
Set the PAR (pixel aspect ratio) like PPro it will adjust it and all instances of it in timelines/comps used.
If you want to make it 16×9 sq pixel you need to force that on export. But I wouldn’t bother.

If the exports are the right frame rate and you render the file in PPro then it should playback properly. If not I’d say there is something not right in the export from Flash.

Are you using Encoder to export an SD DVD preset? Then import that into EncoreDVD? That should give you the best result. CBR will be better than VBR if you have the space. 7200K for video is the highest setting I go with.

You can’t go back. That’s been the thing will so many programs for years now. So your quick answer is no.
However, there is a workaround which has been used for years going from one NLE to another irrespective of the version or app.
EDL. You will need to run on a single layer of video and will probably lose a heaps of effects and such, it will pretty much be a cuts and cross fades only timeline. You will need to relink all the footage or recapture.
AAF. This one I haven’t tested, but in theory should do the same thing. It should keep most of if not all of the edit and effects.

Not in version 1. Sorry. CS3 can only while making edits to the clips in the timeline such as slip, slide, roll, ripple. you can add the timecode effect to show the timecode from the clip you add it to. That effect started in version 2 i think.

I don’t know if your footage is 16:9 Anamorphic meaning it looks 4:3 and is then needed to use another aspect ratio to stretch out to widescreen. DV and HDV 1080 and DVCPROHD require this setting to be changed.
Select all the clips that need the new aspect ratio right click on them and select “Interpret Footage”. Change the Aspect ratio the widscreen version DV PAL/NTSC HD Anamorphic…
They will all update in the timeline/s these clips are used.

Hi Rob,
As a general rule professional use of HDV, Ha! that sounds funny, um yeah, HDV doesn’t really go back to tape much. It can, but you’re re-compressing something that is heavily compressed in the beginning so it’s not done unless it absolutely needs to be provided that way.
Ok, the first thing you need to do is make sure you are saving it in a format that is as lossless as possible for the size of your harddrive. (If the below method is too large and it don’t like it you’ll need to get back to me). Because if you export a HDV to a HDV file then export it to HDV tape that’s way too much re-compressing and each generation (re-compressed/exported version) will lose color and sharpness. So…This exported version will need to render when it is used on the other computer.
1. First make sure you have Quicktime 7.3.1 NOT 7.4!!!
2. Export the Movie with these settings;
– Export>Movie>General…File Type: QT, Range: Entire Sequence, Add to Project When Finished: tick the box
(Cont’) Video Settings…Compressor TGA, Color Depth: Millions, Frame Size: 1440×1080, Frame Rate: 29.97, Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD Anamorphic 1080 1.33, Quality: 100%, Recompress: untick this box!
3. Ok to render to your HDD.This will import itself into your project once it’s done rendering.
Depending how long your project is this will take a while. (Took me about 1min to export 11sec of the Countdown Leader) same with the render before export to tape. But you won’t lose any unnecessary quality this way.
