Hi, I’m wondering if there is anything that resembles the overlay in fcp that shows the source timecode of your footage as you play in the timeline
I can see my source tc in the left monitor but I would like to see it when I have my footage in the sequence too, can this be done
    many thanks!

You can apply the TC effect (was it there in PP1?), but that would be the timeline TC, not the source. Do you mind explaining why you need the source and not the timeline TC?

Sometimes if a whole tape is fed in at once I split it into smaller (15min) chunks and re join them, this is really easy in fcp as I can see source timecode from the timeline so this process is very quick
I also like having it there as a reference to which tape my footage came from
and probably a bunch of other things, I know I look at it a lot and I miss that premiere doesn’t have it

Not in version 1. Sorry. CS3 can only while making edits to the clips in the timeline such as slip, slide, roll, ripple. you can add the timecode effect to show the timecode from the clip you add it to. That effect started in version 2 i think.

How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?

You can see the timecode of source clips (also date, time, iris, shutter speed etc) using DVMP Pro – it displays all of this from the DV metadata that was stored by the camera.
