I’m pretty much ready to purchase an Xdcam ex and then along comes the promise of Scarlet (3K for under $3k!!) which look like it’ll revolutionise the business, but it doesn’t exist and I bet on over a year to wait and I’ve hopefully got a few projects between now and then so I might buy…..

March 18, 2008 at 3:00 pm in reply to: Xdcam EX for PAL SD Anamorphic Digibeta delivery for broadcastThanks for your response (I also read your previous post on EX1 setup). I am quite sold on this camera, waiting to hear from commissioning editors and will go ahead with purchase if positive!!
You mention After FX for the 16:9 anamorphic output. I don’t usually use after FX (though if it was going to significantly improve quality I’d buy it). My thoughts were to drop the HD material into a 10bit SD anamorphic timeline and render, any thoughts??
I use a Blackmagic Decklink Extreme (SD) for SDI output though I wouldn’t use this for downconvert…I would imagine a lot of programme makers are going through this at the moment as I don’t see hi-def broadcasting taking off in Ireland for quite a while.
Thanks again.

November 20, 2007 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Holy Freakin’ Moly! ProRes 1080i via FireWire!Sounds fabulous, does this mean I can capture HDV from my Sony 1080i50 to pro res and edit, could someone give me a step by step workflow as I get confused with the easy setups, I can’t seem to duplicate or edit the HDV – Pro res easy setup (which seems to be set to 1080p24????
Thanks,

Probably wise not to upgrade while using editors, I have looks (which is absolutely fantastic) but went back to a project which I’d used editors extensively in, 95% ok but some shots came up with the logo on (as if using demo) and I had trouble with the misfire vignette.
Maybe not related but not worth the risk…. -
This is probably of no use but might be related, I recently upgraded to the latest Magic Bullet and an old project which used the misfire vignette gave a big red render error similar to the one you’re getting. I had to remove the old vignette and replace it with one in the new Magic Bullet. No playback issues though, possibly co-incidence…

July 24, 2007 at 3:05 pm in reply to: connecting a mic for voiceover (Declink Extreme card)Am I wrong in my previous post? you won’t get audio into the xlr without feeding some dummy video at the same time…. maybe I’m misunderstanding your problem??

July 23, 2007 at 11:15 am in reply to: connecting a mic for voiceover (Declink Extreme card)From my experience it will work but you need to have a video feed at the same time (I think it converts everything to SDI and needs both).
I was told I could loop the decklink video out into the in to do this, but what I did was just fed a vhs into the composite in.
The video isn’t digitised but you get your audio.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,
I’ll check the field dominance in the sequence settings. I tried all varietys of the shift field filter. Can you make the DV slowmo without getting crazy strobing???
Thanks,
Johnny
