connecting a mic for voiceover (Declink Extreme card)
Posted by Andres Baez on July 23, 2007 at 2:52 amHello
I have been trying to use a microphone for voiceovers but I haven’t been able to use it properly. I’m using Final Cut Pro 6 and a Blackmagic extreme card. I connect the microphone to an analog mixer and then get the signal out to the XLR analog input of the extreme card. This is not working so far. I am able to lisen to the microphone signal using the same mixer for audio monitoring. How can I fix this ?help !

July 23, 2007 at 11:15 amFrom my experience it will work but you need to have a video feed at the same time (I think it converts everything to SDI and needs both).
I was told I could loop the decklink video out into the in to do this, but what I did was just fed a vhs into the composite in.
The video isn’t digitised but you get your audio.
Hope this helps.

July 23, 2007 at 11:35 pmOne question, are you able to get ANY audio in to the BM through the XLR inputs, that is, any audio out from your mixer to the XLR inputs of the BM?

July 24, 2007 at 2:29 pmPlease report this to BM support, as I think this is a driver issue. I have reported this problem with Multibridge Pro, there is no way to input audio through the XLR connectors.

July 24, 2007 at 3:05 pmAm I wrong in my previous post? you won’t get audio into the xlr without feeding some dummy video at the same time…. maybe I’m misunderstanding your problem??

July 24, 2007 at 4:10 pmOK, so you found a work around for a driver problem, that is good, and thanks for sharing your solution, but nevertheless, this is a driver issue that should be corrected by BM. It does’nt say in any BM manual, nor product brochure, quite the contrary, that to capture only audio through XLR inputs, you have to feed a dummy analog video signal. This is obviously a problem.

July 24, 2007 at 4:20 pmHow do you set your DeckLink Preferences then? There is a post down below from a guy that cannot capture analog audio and SDI video. Do you think this would work for him?
