  • Mysterious FCP6 issues.. please helpl!

    First the basics:

    8core, radeon x1900, 8gbs of RAM, running FCP studio2 w/magic bullet v.2.

I am literally pulling my hair out… any help is much appreciated!!!

    1. my project (editing in prores 422) all of a sudden is playing in the canvas as if it is unrendered (it stutters, etc.) even though it was fully rendered… w/blue line above it. played fine the other day! I double checked that I had full quality playback set, and sure enough I did. So then I tried to output it as a self contained QT movie just in case, but it just stalled and then said “general error”. So obviously something is majorly messed up! So then, I went to step 2 which was to trash all the render files and just render the whole thing again. Then…

    2. I got this error: (which I actually get ALL THE TIME… on my other editing systems too… and w/older versions of FCP:)

    “AE Effects Error:
    Rendering error using
    “Misfire Vignette.bundle”.
    Verifty filter parameters.”

(i use this filter a lot – but never in AE, only in FCP).

This error seems to pick and choose when it occurs. And it happens on ALL of our 6 editing systems and has happened w/all previous versions of FCP as well which is why, when I decided to look everywhere for an answer, I was shocked to find no information anywhere about this. Usually our “fix-it” is to turn the computer off for a bit, turn it back on and that seems to work, except not today.

    3. After I clicked out of this error message, I noticed that some clips were “halfway” rendered. in other words, part of random clips had the blue line while the other part of a clip had a yellow. I tested the blue part and sure enough.. it still played back as if it was unrendered. (and yes, I have all the render options checked) What gives???

so then I tried trashing my prefs but I think they are somewhere different in FCP6.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!! 🙂 🙂

What storage array are you using?

Is your copy of the effect a Universal Filter for use in FCP 6?

    Hi Walter,

I’m using my internal hard drives for storage (I have installed 3 TB’s)

Are they RAIDed? What is the speed of the array?

no they aren’t RAIDed, but all 3 of them are working fine. You think it’s a storage issue??

This have nothing to do with AE. Is only that MagicBullet is a AE like effect. You can not run MagicBullet Editors in AE. AE used the MagicBullet Suit (although the new MB looks will run in all the compatible applications).
I would suggest you just to download a fresh version of MB Editors and re-install.
If you think you can be having problems with ProRes, You should duplicate your sequence and change it to Apple 10b Unc, and render a bit to see if is the codec what is causing you problems.
Right now I have a problem with ProRes (is PAL ProRes Upper or Lower first?).
A edit a sequence few days ago in 10b Unc (some images from a chopper where I applied the SmoothCam. In 10b Unc plays great in my external CRT connected with my BlackMagic).
Yesterday I wanted to make a ProRes version to archive it. I just changed the codec in the Setting tab but once rendered I had to trash it because had been rendered with the wrong field order. I’d check it in Shake.

not using magic bullet in AE… only in FCP. That’s why this error is so weird!!!

Anyway, thx for the tips. I’ll try duping it into another sequence.

    so frustrating!

This is probably of no use but might be related, I recently upgraded to the latest Magic Bullet and an old project which used the misfire vignette gave a big red render error similar to the one you’re getting. I had to remove the old vignette and replace it with one in the new Magic Bullet. No playback issues though, possibly co-incidence…

You right. When they released the v2, the you could not make work the old projects. All the screen got tinted in red.

    Hi,
I dont know if this sounds stupid and ridiculous to you, but I had a problem with FCP not playing back correctly myself on a G5 the other day, and just found out that the video in the canvas-window needed to be fully visible in order to play on the external Broadcast-Monitor (Decklink). So I pressed “fit window” and all was ok again.

thought I had to share this

    regards Uwe Wiesemann

    Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Yep, been using v.2 since it’s been out so the compatability issue shouldn’t be an issue (believe me, went through a whole different ordeal w/that) and I’m not using an external monitor so that shouldn’t be an issue either. WEIRD!!!
