I had this situation when doing some pan and scan on hi-res pics, green line looked lovely, render it out and I got horrible shimmer and flicker, tried all manner of stuff (blur etc.) but still green line looked better…..

Thanks for the tip, and excuse my ignorance but how would I do that?

I’m afraid the de-interlace trick doesn’t always work but it does give an option between very bad and bad (depending on whether I remove odd or even fields).

WOW if that’s true I’d be a very happy man. Upgrading soon so I’ll find out.
Surprised that Sony didn’t make a big thing of it (though maybe they’re in denial about the problem ever existing…)

Must say though the pictures are so beautiful you’d forgive almost anything!!

The thing is I’m not burning to DVD I’m just playing using Apple DVD player off computer, it seems to work, try it!

(I didn’t invent it by the way I got it from a thread on another forum)…

Maybe I’m still wrong in some important way???

I find the ex1 pretty hard for hand held too but one simple thing I did made a big difference.
I tightened the strap extra tight, so tight that I have to wiggle my hand in.
Maybe it’s obvious but I find it makes a huge difference…

That got me worried as I have one on order!! but here’s from a press release:

‘Also shown is the PHU-60K hard-disk unit designed for use with XDCAM EX camcorders – this is a 1.8-inch, 60 GB external storage unit with an USB 2.0 interface. Recording times of 200 minutes in 35 Mbps HQ (high-quality) mode and 260 minutes in 25 Mbps SP (standard play) mode. When attached to a camcorder, the hard-disk unit functions just like an SxS PRO card, with thumbnail views available on the LCD panel of the PMW-EX1 or PMW-EX3 camcorders or PMW-EX30 deck’.

    Hi,

I mentioned these problems to my sony dealer as I have a phu-60 on order. Seemingly sony mentioned problems with the drives when people use non-sony batteries….any truth in that??

August 24, 2008 at 8:27 am in reply to: Ex1 and Decklink Extreme with FCP downconversion??

Thanks guys for the advice. Bought the camera, lovely!! getting sd monitoring from decklink and have done some render tests which seem nice..

Just another thought, how good is the sd downconvert from the camera itself? would it make any sense to make a master xdcam clip of a programme, copy to camera and record via sdi the sd squeeze output from the camera????
