Technically you can use any network drive by “unlocking” it via the console.
    Type in “alldrives 1”
I only tested this on PC, your mileage may vary.

Pay attention that the Avid application assumes to be the only one accessing project an media data, so take care not to open / save the same project at the same time, so you’re not risking to overwrite changes from different machines.

    Hi creatureteacher,

might just be a bus segmentation problem. Mojo seems a little bit touchy when running in the same pci bus segment as the mass storage.
Try reseating the controller (it should also run in the PCI-X segments…)

    Good luck

    Hi,

in the unlikely event you’re only using a single-monitor setup, you could be using a second monitor to display the video overlay full-screen.
This won’t be true HD resolution either but it should be better than the SD downconvert.

    Hi Martin,

it might be a problem with the new “Execution Disable” feature that the new generation of processors comes with. Check the BIOS if there is an option to disable that.
    It worked for me.

June 3, 2005 at 7:32 am in reply to: DMPort Error with Mojo on a PC

If it happens on a certified system: it might just be a software bug.
In case it isn’t a certified system it often CAN relate to pci bus segmentation. The mojo is extremely touchy when beeing used on the same pci bus segment as the hard disk drives. If you want to rule this out, check if your firewire card the mojo is connected to is on a different pci bus segment than the firewire card used for you hard disk drives.
To check you will need a good motherboard documentation. A good (visual) indicator would be if you had pci-x slots and the regular pci ones. those are different pci segments for sure.

can you get into more detail?
    – software version?
    – hardware specifics (machine, pci-bus segmentation)?
    – when does this error appear?

If this error appear on a PC platform it usually relates to problems with PCI-Bus segmentation…

mojo firmware will be downgraded automatically. the software checks the revision – if it doesn’t match the one wanted it’s going to be overwritten.

June 2, 2005 at 7:22 am in reply to: VDMV2P_TIMEOUT error in DV Express

Taken from the avid knowledge base:

When you render fairly complex media, three video tracks, and IN
and OUT points around the area to be rendered, the following
exception might occur during the render process:
    Exception: VDMV2P_TIMEOUT
Workaround: Start the render again. It might work slowly, but it will
complete the render. Restart the render as many times as it is
    necessary.

If you create an effect on a video track, you cannot play the effect
until you leave Effect mode. An error message appears if you
attempt to play the effect in Effect mode.
Workaround: Exit Effect mode to play the effect.

If you apply a Vertical Blinds effect to the clip boundaries in a DV
    50 sequence, a VDMV2P_TIMEOUT error might occur.

If you import a graphic with a black background and place a Luma
Key effect on the graphic, you cannot completely turn off the
keying, even when the gain level is set to zero.
Workaround: Import the graphic using a white background.
Alternatively, for a cleaner keying effect, create and import the graphic
    as a Matte Key effect.

June 2, 2005 at 7:19 am in reply to: some more basic q’s…

ad 1: the keyframeability of effects depends on the effect and the software you’re using.
not all are keyframeable, but most of them.

ad 2: set in and out marks and select “remove match frame edits” from the clip menu

ad 4: no way i know of

ad 5: you can hold your alt-key and drag another effect on your clip; you can also use the nesting function (via the step-in / step-out buttons on your timeline) to add effects ‘behind’ another effect. use “nesting” as a search in avid help.

ad 6: use the “open bin” function and select the bin containing the desired sequence from another project.

sorry for the lazy writing – i’m still kinda sleeping…
