some more basic q’s…

So i’m a FCP editor moving to avid after being away for a few years (and not being an Avid master in the first place). So i have some basic questions that i’ve searched for in the online helps, and in forums, and haven’t found answers, i’m hoping that nobody here will chastize me for asking such ‘basic’ questions that are maybe best for a faq section somewhere (so if someone could point me to a faq somewhere i’d be very interested…) but here’s my questions. Any and all help is so much appreciated! ThanksProblems i need to figure out still:
1. Can i make ANY clip effect ‘keyframe’able’ or just some effects?
2. How to rejoin a clip that has been -

ad 1: the keyframeability of effects depends on the effect and the software you’re using.
not all are keyframeable, but most of them.ad 2: set in and out marks and select “remove match frame edits” from the clip menu
ad 4: no way i know of
ad 5: you can hold your alt-key and drag another effect on your clip; you can also use the nesting function (via the step-in / step-out buttons on your timeline) to add effects ‘behind’ another effect. use “nesting” as a search in avid help.
ad 6: use the “open bin” function and select the bin containing the desired sequence from another project.

Ans 3. white data usually means a mis-matched audio sample rate… i.e. your project is set for 48k, but the music sample is 44k.. In settings, audio, you can choose to convert on the fly for listening and mixing. That is what is occuring…
Ans 4. to view source waveforms, toggle between source and master workspace. Then you will see the source waveforms in a timeline fashion. To make things handy, I usually go to the command palette, and map the source/record toggle button to the escape key. It’s easy to go to source, mark the in or out on the waveform, and pop back to the master timeline…
Ans 5. hold down “alt” button while dragging effects on top of each other. You will then need to drill down to the effect that you want to work on… or add the effect, adjust, “alt” next effect, adjust, “alt” next effect, adjust and so on…
Ans 6. go to the project that you want to work in. File, “open bin” and select the bin that holds the sequence you want. Copy or drag the sequence from the bin into your current project.

1. All effects are ‘keyframable’. A better question might be are all effects infinitely keyframable? No, they all have limitations. You can promote most to 3D (button in bottom right of effects editor box)and get more options.
2. If the staple is red, you can’t (you’ve added an effect, or in the case of audio, changed a level). If you haven’t, go to clip>remove matchframe editsJon
