    I’ve had different issues with USB-to-RS422/RS323 converters, but mainly on PC.
    Do you have the chance to exchange this one for a keyspan usa-28x which is officially supported by avid (and has always worked for me)?
    you can get the keyspan in almost any mac-store…

    did you check quicktime version?
    Avid relies heavily on Quicktime, since it’s used for any im- or export function, especially for qt ref ;-))
    recommendations for the correct qt-version to use can be found in the readme-file of your xpress-pro.
    Just in case your using the 5.0 version: upgrade to at least 5.1.1 since there have been loads of bug fixes since…

    You should able to connect just about every recent SCSI-drive to your Avid-System.
    There is only little to observe: use LVD SCSI, watch your SCSI-IDs, don’t connect more than 7-8 drives to one SCSI-chain and don’t stripe different drives…

    In my experience the Avid software often is troubled by non-Intel chipsets; this is probably why no AMD system is currently qualified by Avid…
    If you really want to build the system yourself (which I wouldn’t recommend for real production systems) observe the following:

    – Intel chipset
    – NVidia graphics card
    – Firewire controller w/ Texas Instruments chipset
    – at least 1,5Gig RAM

    the input-output-guide (available at avid.com) lights the dark:
    open your console window in xpress pro, enter “alldrives 1” and relaunch your software.
    that should do the trick…
