Vegas doesn’t support the editing of FLV files so you will have to use an external program like Super(c) to convert them into a format that Vegas can edit.

It sounds like the black is “nothingness”. In other words, it is showing you the track beneath your green screen track and there is no track so it shows nothing but black. Just place an event of Generated Media Solid Color White on the track below and it will show through white instead.

Hi-Def is a broad term. Will you be editing HDV or AVCHD? Vegas 7 does OK with HDV but Vegas Pro 8.0 edits it a lot smoother. If you are going to edit AVCHD you should definitely upgrade to 8.0 and get yourself a Quad Core computer or work with proxies. Otherwise a Dual Core should be fine for HDV.

There is no option for this, it’s just the way Vegas behaves when you drop a clip that is longer than the timeline. It does leave a bit at the end so that you can drop another clip and it will scroll that clip into view once you drop it.

That features is part of DVD Architect Pro. Reinstall DVD Architect and you should get the Dolby Digital AC3 encoder back.

I have done both. When I record a stage performance, I will take the audio directly from the mixing desk to my Marantz PMD-660. I sync this up with my Sony Z1U camera footage in Vegas and I get about 20 minutes before I have to split the external audio track and resync it; usually just by a frame or two.

I have also added CD music to a performance after the fact where there was only a piano accompaniment that night. Since the pianist was not listening to the CD tempo, I usually have to cut and sync every measure of the song to get them right but the addition of the full orchestra from the CD increases the production value so much that it is worth the effort.

The icon panel just to the left of the main windows has options for Make Same Width and Make Same Height. Just select multiple buttons and use those to make them all the same.

Does it not play right after it’s rendered out of VirtualDub? Even though it might not play smooth in VDub it should play fine once rendered.

Vegas only uses raw CPU power so overclocking or getting faster or more cores is the only thing you can do.

No, not in Vegas but VirtualDub has a deflicker filter that works great and VirtuaDub is free.
