Editing in high-def
Hello All,
I am wondering about editing true high definition in Vegas. I am about to embark on a new high-def project and am wondering what is best for editing. Can I just drop the hi-def footage on the timeline and cut away, or do I need to alter the footage beforehand somehow to make it easier to edit? I have never cut hi-def before. I’ve only ever edited SD and don’t know much about intermediates, proxies, and of the like.
Any words of advice would be appreciated.
I’m am running Vegas Pro 7 on an XP 2.13 Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM.

There are a couple methods of altering your HD
footage (as you put it) to make editing easier.
But first thing one needs to do if they are
gonna seriously start working with HD is to invest in
a very Powerful computer with lots of processing power
and memory….along with upgrading your version of vegas
to the latest release.Steve Rhoden

Hi-Def is a broad term. Will you be editing HDV or AVCHD? Vegas 7 does OK with HDV but Vegas Pro 8.0 edits it a lot smoother. If you are going to edit AVCHD you should definitely upgrade to 8.0 and get yourself a Quad Core computer or work with proxies. Otherwise a Dual Core should be fine for HDV.
