Try Supersampling in Vegas. The Vegas documentation says that it is meant to smooth out animation frames but you might as well see if you like what it does to video.

I set my project up using the NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps) setting and I render with the MainConcept MPEG-2 type using the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template and render the audio separately as AC-3 and I have no issues with the DVD output from my Sony Z1. No tweaking or anything. Just use the defaults templates provided by Sony. Nero should be fine with this and not need to re-encode or anything.

The short answer is: Yes. DVI is digital while VGA is analog. Your computer is digital and your LCD is digital (CRT’s are analog). So you are converting a digital signal in your computer to an analog signal to send it to your LCD so that it can convert it back to a digital signal. That seems silly. Just send the original digital signal to your LCD via DVI and be done with it.
While the difference might be very subtle, I would bet that something is being lost in the analog conversion so why do it.

If the audio is in 5.1 surround perhaps you can rip the 5.1 AC3 file and extract just the center channel. I’m guessing that this is probably the commentary all by itself and your work is done.

You failed to mention that in your first post. NTSC is 720×480 while PAL is 720×576 so your 480 tall video is being streteched vertically to 576! That’s 96 extra scan lines that must be filled making the video stretch 1/6 taller than it actually is. Could it be this is what you are seeing?

Once you select the color to key out, you must adjust the Low threshold and High threshold to make a clean mask. Check the Show mask only checkbox to see just the mask and adjust the High and Low until the mask is completely black and white with no shares of gray. Then turn off Show mask only and you should have a much cleaner key and the video won’t be transparent.

If you have trimmed footage from the event, you need to make a subclip and turn the Loop property off and then it will freeze if you extend the end.

Do you have Simulate Device Aspect Ratio enabled in your Vegas preview (right-click the preview to see). if not, you will get tall thin people as you have described.
