By “type graphics” do you mean text? Would this be text from generated media? What project properties were used when you added the generated media? This is why I suggested using a DV Widescreen project. I have seen text get blurry when I create it in an HD project and render as DV Widescreen. I now create my text at DV quality and I like the output much better because it’s not getting resized from HD down to DV.

I’ve installed Vegas 4 on Vista 32 and it has a problem with not finding one of the older windows media DLL’s (which I assume Vista doesn’t have anymore). It does work for editing DV. I did not try capture. I’m not sure what additional problems 64-bit will bring. You should be prepared for some things not to work with Vegas 4 in Vista just because Vegas 4 is so old and relies on old technologies like Quicktime 5 and Windows Media 6 which aren’t around anymore on Vista.

This suggests that your camera is in DV downconvert mode. You need to change it so that the firewire on your camera is in HDV mode. Disconnect the camera, change the mode, then connect it again.

If you want to make nice looking MP4 files in Vegas at 1280×720 try this:
Use the Sony AVC render type and start with the Memory Stick SD NTSC widescreen – 2128 Kbps template. Then press the Custom… button and make these changes on the Video tab:
Video Format: AVC
Frame size: (Custom frame size)
Width: 1280
Height: 720
Field order: None (progressive)That should give you pretty good quality for a Bit rate of only 2K. You can take the bit rate up or down from there to find the right balance of file size vs quality.

A quick Google search reveals that this camera shoots MPEG4. Chances of it using an MPEG4 variant that Vegas can edit are slim to none. I would start by installing any software that came with the camera. This may install the proper codec. If Vegas still can’t edit the video then you need to use some other program (like Super(c)) to convert it into a format that Vegas can edit or find an NLE that is compatible with this camera.

It will stop at the end of a DV tape because it has transport control and can sense the stop. The problem with analog converters like the Canopus is that they generate their own timecode and continue to generate it long after the tape has ended so Vegas has no way of knowing that the analog tape stopped.
Maybe you can use the batch option and set the in and out points for an hour and then capture the in/out which would capture for an hour (or whatever time you set) and then stop.

I don’t believe that Vegas 4 supports HD so you may be stopped right there. As for your computer, which high-definition codecs are you intending to use? It may be OK for HDV but not AVCHD which is very demanding on even QuadCore computers.

In general Quicktime does everything slower on a PC because it is optimized for a Mac. 🙁
