Looking for Best rendering settings
New to everything. Using a Sony Z1 camera in HD
Sony Vegas pro 8
Project is 12 minutes long
(Most of my work is about 12-30 minutes long)
Burning on NERO Vision4I just want to burn my projects on a DVD with the best possible resolution. I have been able to burn but I’m not happy with the
overall quality of the final product. It is not crystal clear like I’d expect. Have been trying various changes with only mixed results. Thanks for any help you can give me!PROPERTIES: 720 X 480

NERO does work with the AUDIO rendered on a seperate
AC3 file. Is there an advantage of doing this?CUSTOM: BEST

Not sure if I can help, but I will try.
Did you say you are shooting in HD? Is it native 16:9? If so you may wish to change your project properties to HD 16:9. Also I would render using a default HD setting instead of 720 x 480.
Not sure if this will improve things but it seems like you may not be using the right settings for your export.

I set my project up using the NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps) setting and I render with the MainConcept MPEG-2 type using the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template and render the audio separately as AC-3 and I have no issues with the DVD output from my Sony Z1. No tweaking or anything. Just use the defaults templates provided by Sony. Nero should be fine with this and not need to re-encode or anything.

This is for taking the 1440×1080 HDV from my Sony Z1U down to an NTSC 720×480 Widescreen DVD.

John Rofano – I tried your recommendations and was confident it was the magic bullet but I was quite surprized when the rendered product was poor in quality.
Corey Whitley recommended the default HD settings with HD 16:9 and that was much better however, I’m still not there. everything is not as sharp as it should be. Even the type graphics have a fuzzy
soft look.
Any recommendations to try to narrow down the problem?The native footage is 16:9 in HDV.
I’ll be gone for a few days but look forward to getting back to hear any ideas. Thanks in advance!

By “type graphics” do you mean text? Would this be text from generated media? What project properties were used when you added the generated media? This is why I suggested using a DV Widescreen project. I have seen text get blurry when I create it in an HD project and render as DV Widescreen. I now create my text at DV quality and I like the output much better because it’s not getting resized from HD down to DV.
