I have Vegas 8 running on a PC. When I connect my camera via firewire nothing at all happens. Tring to capture HDV tapes. When i connect the USB cable It pops up right away wanting to load still pics from the card.

    Tried re-booting
    Changing firewire cables
    Used known good cables
Re-starting computer , then turning on camera
    Switching firewire ports

running XP Pro with service pak 2, but am not connected to the internet, never connect my edit systems for internet use.

    any Ideas?

    thanks,
    Greg

I hope you are not trying to use the video capture utility to
capture from an HD camera (its only made to capture SD).
You have to use the internal capture feature in vegas.

And also make sure you go in “preferences” and select
    ieee firewire connection.

I tried selecting firewire, also toggling external and internal, always get device not connected

I Should correct myself….when the internal
capture window pops up, you right click in
it and select device and ieee 1394/mpeg2-ts….
    and see if that helps.

and make sure the camera is set in hd mode before you connect it

    Ok

When I select capture video a window pops up giving me a choice of either dv or hdv.sdi I select Hdv/sdi capture window opens with device not connected, the preferences window does not have a mpeg 2 firewire listing just windows, a nd firewire also external box.
I tried all combinations with no result at all.

Again this is a sony A1u camera with a firewire port listing HDV and DV
    The camera is in hdv

No, No….Something is wrong there, you should see
three options available in the internal docking capture
    utility preferences:
    1.None.
    2.AJA video device.
    3.IEEE 1394/MPEG2-TS device.

It will not function if its not selected here.
