  • I agree with Walter. This sounds like a drive issue. I recall some past (more than 3 months old) posts about problems with RocketRAID. Search the Cow for RocketRAID and see what comes up.

Yes, FCP prefs. Here’s a Cow tutorial on the subject.

FCP (and all professional edit apps) wants sound files to be 48kHz 16 or 24bit. If it’s not you have to render. But, it’s a quick render. The sound’s sample rate was probably set in the camera. In the future have the camera set to 48k to eliminate the need to render sound. Why didn’t you use FCP to capture instead of iMovie? Not that it would have made a difference with the sound. Did you use the DV PAL easy setup?

  • Trash prefs, repair permissions and run Disk Warrior. See if that helps and report back if you’re still having problems.

  • Chris, I’m sorry, but I don’t have direct experience with XDCAM. Checkout this thread https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1037247#1037341 There are probably more you can search out on the Cow.

As for data rates, ProRes is 5 times that of DV. Here’s a link to a chart of data rates courtesy of Dulce. https://www.dulcesystems.com/html/video_space.html

I’ve never been happy with my results using the keyer in FCP. I usually use Keylight in AE. Since you have it, why not key there? Motion has a much better keyer (Primatte) than FCP. If someone can’t help with the FCP key, try Motion. At least you can round-trip from FCP.

Email Christoph at CHV. I’m sure there’s a contact email on their site. He’s very responsive.

Have you trashed prefs and repaired permissions? If not, do that first and see if it helps. Also run Disk Warrior. If you don’t have it, you should get it. It keeps your system disk healthy.

Checkout DH_Counter. It’s a generator so you’d put it in the track above your video and strech it to the length of your program. It counts down or up and you can change the font, its size, color and position. https://www.digital-heaven.co.uk/dh_counter

I’d use compressor to make SD ProRes files (4:3). Depending on what codecs you have installed on your Mac, you might have issues working with AVI. In that case, try MPEG Streamclip. https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html Open the AVI and Export to QT using ProRes.
