Using FW for both your drive and camera is probably causing the problem. FW wants to see one or the other. Try connecting just the camera and see if it’s recognized. Same with the drive. If both are recognized separately, then it’s their combination that’s causing the issue. You can solve this by getting an Express card FW port. Then you can plug your drive in one port and the camera in the other.

Nice device if you do tons of h.264. According to Matrox literature, it’s up to twice as fast as Compressor. I’m fairly happy encoding with Compressor, BitVice or Squeeze since most of our releases aren’t in h.264.

I’d capture/convert all to Prores and edit in that format. Turning a higher quality signal (XDCAM) into DV makes no sense. Also, editing in a DV timeline will make any pix or graphics look terrible.

Another approach if the video looks consistenly dark throughout is to make the change in Compressor when encoding the mv2s. This could be a gamma issue.

Using your capture card you could capture both as ProRes (use a ProRes Easy Setup). That should eliminate the colored lines in the timeline that indicate a need to render. Depending on your RT settings you might be able to edit in real time and only render at the end. If you do that make sure you select the Best setting in the Sequence Settings>Render Conreol tab.
