all of a sudden the resolution on my external monitor is super bad. looks like very compressed video. Why?

    MAC PRO
    3 terabytes
    2 x 3.2 GHz
    8gb ram
    fcp 6

digitized 35mm footage via dvcam deck [after telecine].
external monitor is a 46” sony LCD hooked up via HDMI cable to Blackmagic card. Roland studio monitors hooked up to the back of the sony LCD with analog XLR cables. I’m ready to chop up these 14 hrs into a feature, please help!

PS yes, i’ve tried rendering. external video all frames are checked, video playback is set to 720p 59.94 1280×720. Any other setting will freeze frames on the external. Cutting in 23.98 after reverse telecine.

Watching DV footage on a big LCD is never going to look great. Have you seen your DVCAM footage look good on a different monitoring setup?

You’re blowing up a 720×480 image to 1920×1080 on that LCD panel. That’s why it looks so bad. Put that screen into a 1:1 mode and you’ll see the video in its actual size, a very small box in the middle of the screen.

HD displays are made to display HD, not SD. Anytime you put SD on there and have the screen blow it up to full screen size, it’s going to look bad. DV and DVCAM will look the worst.

it looked amazing two days ago, i was very happy with it.
I or my AE accidentally did something to the settings and now it’s really low res.

I’m trying to figure out what i did wrong.
